If you're running Google or Facebook ads and sending people to your homepage, you're probably leaving a significant number of leads on the table. I see this constantly. The contractor spends money to get a click and then sends the visitor to a page that's trying to do twelve things at once. Most of them leave without calling.
Why Your Homepage Isn't a Landing Page
Your homepage is designed to introduce your business to someone who found you organically or was referred. It covers everything: who you are, what you do, where you serve, how to contact you, testimonials, certifications, the whole story. That's appropriate for someone who's just discovering you.
Someone who clicked an ad already knows what they want. They searched "AC repair near me" and clicked your ad. They don't need your full company overview. They need to see that you do AC repair, that you serve their area, and how to call you right now. That's a landing page job, not a homepage job.
What a Good Landing Page Includes
A headline that matches the ad they clicked. If your ad says "Fast AC Repair, Same-Day Service," your landing page headline should say something very close to that. Mismatched messaging is jarring and people bounce.
Three to five bullet points: what you do, how fast, what it costs (or at least "free estimates"), what area you serve. A large, obvious phone number. A short form for people who prefer to type. Two or three customer reviews. That's it. No navigation menu. No links to your other services. One job: get them to contact you.
A/B Testing Basics
Once you have a landing page running, test one variable at a time. The headline. The photo. The call to action button text. "Call Now" versus "Get a Free Quote" can make a measurable difference. Give each version enough traffic (200+ visitors) before drawing conclusions. Don't change two things at once or you won't know what moved the needle.
The Tool Investment
You don't need a developer to build a basic landing page. Tools like Unbounce, Leadpages, or even a simple WordPress page with a clean template can work. The goal is a focused, fast-loading page that removes every distraction between the visitor and the phone number.
Spend half as much time on the landing page as you do on the ad creative. Most of the conversion work happens after the click, not before it.

Dina grew up in the trades. Her father was a contractor, then a building inspector, and the job site was her classroom long before any formal one was. She went on to own her own contracting company, which is where she first felt the pain of running a skilled trade business on bad software and worse spreadsheets. A love of data pulled her into programming, and the two worlds eventually collided into WerkOps - software built by someone who has actually been on the truck.
